River of Light is Liverpool and Wirral’s pre-eminent bonfire night event – a spectacular cross-river firework display. Liverpool City Council and Wirral Borough Council have amalgamated multiple displays in this stand-out event, using the River Mersey as a stage.
2018 marked the third River of Light event, with Liverpool organising a display with two barges on the river, and a Wirral event coordinated from New Brighton. Paramount was instrumental in the event’s organisation on the Liverpool side of the river, and has worked with the city council on its fireworks events since 2005.
I have worked with Paramount for over 10 years on a variety of events from largescale fireworks displays to international river festivals to building cardboard castles. I have always found their staff to be competent, reliable, very friendly and flexible - willing to go that extra mile.
In the early stages, Paramount provided overnight security during the build phase. During the event, Paramount was responsible for providing guidance to the public regarding site and event information, including directing them to three viewing platforms across Princes Parade, Pier Head and Riverside Walkway alongside Kings Parade as secondary viewing. We also maintained security and access to restricted areas, reporting any public safety or security issues to event control, and monitored crowd density and crowd situation throughout, to constantly assess public safety, based on our crowd management plan.
We also took charge of traffic management for the evening, deployment and briefing traffic stewards across the Liverpool side of the event, providing local knowledge and expertise to the public for alternative vehicle routes. In total, Paramount provides more 200 staff across stewarding and traffic management for this stand-out event in the city’s calendar.
